Marigold Infrastructure Partners will install the Stony Plain Road bridge girders (large steel beams used to support the bridge deck) from August 10 to August 14, 2023, for the Valley Line West LRT. In order to safely perform this work, Groat Road will be closed between 107 Avenue and River Valley Road.

The Stony Plain Road bridge is being widened to support vehicles, pedestrians, bicycles, and LRT traffic.

What To Expect During the Closure
The girder installation will occur during daytime and overnight hours, starting on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at 7 p.m., and ending on Monday, August 14, 2023, at 6 a.m. During this time, Groat Road will be closed between 107 Avenue and River Valley Road for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.

There will be heavy equipment including a large crane, and transport trucks required to perform this work.

Traffic and Pedestrian Detours
With Groat Road being closed between 107 Avenue and River Valley Road, motorists are advised to use alternate routes. Please follow all project wayfinding signage to locate the nearest detour.

Pedestrian and cyclist access will be limited during the Groat Road closure. Pedestrian and cyclist access to the shared use path along Groat Road will be closed from 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 8, through to 6 a.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2023, to accommodate the girder installation. All pedestrians and cyclists will be asked to detour through the Ramsay Ravine near Government House Park. Please watch for wayfinding signage.

What You Can Expect After
Post girder installation, the Marigold crews will be starting the bridge diaphragm form work, followed by the decking girders, and then move on to starting the bridge deck works, including rebar and concrete.

After construction wraps up, the Stony Plain Road bridge will have one lane of vehicular traffic in either direction, tracks for the Valley Line West LRT, and Shared Use Path for pedestrians and bikers. Check out the below rendering of the future Stony Plain Road bridge!
