Scope of Work

Works Planned for 2025:

  • Grovenor/142 St Stop construction ongoing
  • Stony Plain Road/149 Street and Jasper Place Stops
  • Drainage & Roadworks switched to north side of Stony Plain Road 
  • Preparatory work for stops 
  • Stony Plain Road & 151-155 Street
    • Drainage work began on the north side of Stony Plain Road
  • Stony Plain Road/144 Street Utility Complex
  • 100A Avenue/156 Street Utility Complex 
  • Work at intersection of SPR and 156th Street – rail installation completed.
  • Ongoing roadways construction
  • Ongoing track work and Utility Complex mobilization

On February 11, 2025, the City of Edmonton’s Urban Planning Committee approved the Valley Line West 2025 Roadway Construction Options and Impacts plan to accelerate Valley Line West construction. Starting August 15, 2025, vehicular traffic will be temporarily closed for approximately nine weeks. The intersection of 142 Street and Stony Plain Road will be reopened before this closure is implemented.

What you can expect

Traffic Impacts

  • The intersection of 149 Street near Stony Plain Road will be closed to north/south through traffic. 
  • On Stony Plain Road, one lane of east/west traffic will be maintained. 
  • Northbound traffic on 149 Street must turn east or west at Stony Plain Road. 
  • Southbound traffic on 149 Street will be restricted to Local Access Only at 102 Avenue
    • All other traffic must turn right at 102 Avenue
  • Motorists are encouraged to use 142 Street or 156 Street as a detour.

 Pedestrian Access

  • Pedestrian access in the area will be maintained; however, the crosswalks at this intersection will be closed. 
  • Pedestrian access across Stony Plain Road will be maintained at 148 Street and 151 Street. 
  • Pedestrians are asked to please follow project wayfinding signage..

Other Impacts

  • Construction will mainly occur during daytime hours (Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.); however, overnight work will be required. 
  • Marigold has obtained an overnight roadwork permit, in accordance with City of Edmonton bylaws and regulations. *City of Edmonton Bylaw C14600. 
  • There will be noise associated with this work including that of heavy equipment and increased construction vehicle traffic in the area. Every effort will be made to reduce the impact to the public. 
  • Access to nearby businesses will be maintained. Please follow project wayfinding signage in the area. 
  • Please visit ETS Detours and Bus Stop Closures for all ETS changes and updates.
  • These road closures are expected to last approximately nine weeks; however, construction will be ongoing until completion.
