This summer marked a major milestone for the Valley Line West LRT project as Marigold Infrastructure Partners (MIP) successfully completed its Accelerated Roadwork Program ahead of schedule.

The Plan in Action:

Launched in February 2025 in collaboration with the City of Edmonton, the program aimed to fast-track key intersections and roads closer to their final configuration within one construction season. By intensifying work and deploying additional resources, MIP cut the total duration of traffic disruptions by more than half. This aggressive and ambitious approach was designed to ease long-term impacts for businesses, commuters and communities along the alignment.

Major Achievements:

  • 124 Street & Stony Plain Road reopened a full week early after a temporary closure in April.
  • 139 Street & 142 Street saw simultaneous builds along Stony Plain Road, reducing disruption from 24 weeks to just over nine weeks, on schedule.
  • 149 Street & Stony Plain Road was completed in just seven-and-a-half weeks, followed by fresh landscaping and upgraded lighting. This intersection was completed a week and a half faster than the original accelerated schedule.
  • 156 Street & 95 Avenue was completed in nine weeks, on schedule for the accelerated timeline.
  • 87 Avenue & Meadowlark Road reopened after an 11-week partial closure, a week ahead of schedule, delivering smoother traffic flow and modernized infrastructure.
  • 104 Avenue corridor advanced significantly with work from 105 Street to 121 Street, including utility upgrades and LRT track slab installation.

Transforming Communities:

Beyond speed, the program delivered quality improvements, permanent sidewalks, new streetlights, upgraded utilities, and landscaping that enhances the urban experience. These upgrades are already making a difference for residents and commuters, creating safer, more attractive transportation corridors.

Celebrating Success:

Finishing the accelerated roadwork scopes on or ahead of schedule is no small feat on a project of this scale. The Accelerated Roadwork Program demonstrates what’s possible with collaboration and determination.

With these key intersections and corridors now closer to their final alignment, the Valley Line West LRT is well on its way to transforming mobility in Edmonton.
